Statement on the phased return of schools in Wirral, following the Government announcement
Statement from Paul Boyce, Director of Children, Families and Education:
“During the Prime Minister's broadcast on Sunday 10 May, it was announced as part of a series of proposed and conditional steps to ease lockdown, that a phased return of some primary school year groups may be introduced.
The year groups mentioned as part of the announcement were; Reception, Year 1 and Year 6.
We have now received detailed guidance from central government around the phases of easing lockdown and we will be working with schools in Wirral to understand what steps and resources will be needed to provide child care for more parents.
We will build on the work we have already done to support the children of key workers and to provide support for vulnerable children. Our priority will continue to be the creation of safe environments for children and for the staff who work in our schools.
To help with our planning, schools will be in contact this week with the parents and carers of those children in the highlighted year groups. This will be to understand better what level of support is being requested in the second half of this term.
I would like to say thank you on behalf of the council and schools to all of the parents and carers across Wirral. I know this is a extremely challenging situation for you all. We are so grateful for the continued cooperation we are receiving from parents and carers.
By working together, we will get through this.”
