Marine Lake walkway reopens to public – but at a safe distance

The walkway around West Kirby Marine Lake is set to officially reopen to the public from Saturday 4 July as restrictions continue to ease.

However, social distancing remains crucial and signage has been installed along the walkway and at each entrance as a reminder to walkers.

Regular visitors will know the walkway is narrow, making it harder to keep a distance if people are passing in both directions. Safety was the main consideration when the council closed the path earlier in the year following concerns including feedback from residents.

Cllr Julie McManus, Wirral’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “We have decided to reopen the walkway around the marine lake after changes to government guidance on Coronavirus, however walkers still need to be cautious.

“If the walkway is busy, consider visiting at a quieter time or come back another day. It’s harder, if not impossible, to social distance if the walkway is crowded.”

The latest national guidance on social distancing and coronavirus is available on the government website.
