Award-winning children’s author Tracey Corderoy to headline at inaugural Mellor Literature Festival

The first ever Mellor Literature Festival will take place on Saturday 30 June with more than a dozen authors taking part.

With a magical storytelling tent, poetry in the woods, workshops for budding novelists (both adults and children), a book trail and sale, family crafts, street food, face painting and much more, there’s something for bookworms of all ages to enjoy at the event taking place at Mellor Primary School in Stockport from 10am-3pm later this month.

Award-winning writer and author of children’s favourites Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam and Hubble Bubble Granny Trouble, Tracey Corderoy, will be headlining the event with book presentations which include two interactive illustration sessions and a craft workshop. Tracey’s books will be available to purchase on the day or bring your own from home to get it signed.

Other children’s authors appearing at the festival include J.D. Welch, Ruth Estevez, Nick Jones, Amanda Stones, Lucy Keeling, Nicola Hulme and Kellie Hamill. And children who come dressed as characters from their favourite books will also have the chance to enter the festival’s fancy dress competition to win a range of book-related prizes!

Adults can also enjoy a whole host of activities including dedicated workshops on how to start your first book, getting your novel into print and using paintings as a stimulus for creative writing, alongside talks and book signings from authors and experts including James Christie, Phil Page, Carole Page, Michael Ross, Josey Taylor, Margaret Holbrook, Chris Murgatroyd, Sahera Patel and Charlotte Gringras.

Ensuring no one goes hungry, a selection of street food vendors will be heading to the festival serving up a variety of dishes, and for those who enjoy a spot of afternoon tea, be sure to visit the tea and cake stall!

The festival has already received high praise from the literary world with best selling author and public speaker Dr Gervase Phinn commenting: "The world of books is the most remarkable creation of man, a treasure chest the contents of which give great delight and actively foster a love of reading. Events such as the Mellor Literature Festival celebrate and promote reading in such a vibrant and exciting way by bringing writers and their readers together. It is a brilliant initiative."

For more information and a full list of child and adult workshops, including timings, visit the official Mellor Literature Festival website at www.mellorliteraturefestival.uk. Workshop places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Tickets cost £10 for a family ticket (2 adults plus unlimited children) or £4 for adults and £2 for children and are available to purchase in advance from Mellor Primary School or on the gate on the day.
